Flashlight Ability

One of the 15 Civilian abilities in Die of Death — a brief slow-and-blind tool for buying distance.

The Flashlight is one of the current 15 Civilian abilities in Die of Death. Picking it gives your Civilian the Camp ROBLOX hat and a worried, side-eye expression — and a short, commitment-free way to disrupt a chasing Killer. This page covers what it actually does and how to time it. Treat specific numbers as community-confirmed from the official wiki; we update if patch notes change them.

What the Flashlight does

Slowness II (1.5s)

On use, the Killer in range is applied Slowness II for 1.5 seconds. It's a short window — enough to break a chase or reach a vault, not a hard lockdown.

Forward shine (0.5s)

After the slow, your Civilian points the flashlight forward for 0.5 seconds. Anyone caught in the beam is briefly blinded/disoriented, buying extra distance.

When to pick it

  • As a panic button when a Killer is already on you and you need a 1.5s gap to reach cover.
  • Against Killers that rely on sustained pressure (e.g. Pursuer) — the slow breaks their hitchain rhythm.
  • In modes with long sightlines where the shine can catch a Killer before they close the gap.

It pairs well with abilities that reward distance (Sprint, Adrenaline) since the slow + shine combo is purely defensive. It is not a damage tool — don't pick it expecting to win a fight, only to escape one.

Limitations

The effect is brief by design. Against Killers with built-in gap-closers or immunities, a 1.5s slow may not be enough on its own — use it as part of a rotation with other Civilians' abilities rather than as a standalone answer.
