Die of Death Special Modes

How the rotating special modes work and how to win them.

Die of Death special rounds are rotating rule changes that appear every three rounds. Gunslinger, Double Trouble, One Bounce, Evil Scary and Dienation each change how Civilians and Killers fight, so the usual strategies don't always apply. Here's what to expect and how to adapt.

Double Trouble

Two Killers in one round. The difficulty spikes hard — Civilians must split the Killers' attention and use teamwork to survive. Coordinate heals and body-blocks or you'll get picked off fast.

The second angle matters more than raw damage because coordinated Killers can close both exits.

Tip: As a Civilian, never clump — two Killers can collapse on a group instantly. As a Killer, pair up to cut off escape routes.

One Bounce

8 players, but only 1 gets a random buff (SSJ1 hairstyle + 40 bonus HP per Killer + 250 stamina) while the other 7 are all Killers. Round length is just 1 minute 15 seconds.

The short round runs on Temple or H.Q and the buffed Civilian HP scales with the number of Killers.

Tip: If you're the buffed Civilian, your extra HP and stamina are your only edge — loop hard and waste the clock. If you're a Killer, swarm early before the buff pays off.

Gunslinger

Everyone spawns with a Revolver and Punch. Damage dealt to the Killer is doubled, but your Punch no longer stuns. Pure firefight mode.

Because Punch cannot stun, the Killer cannot be locked in melee, so spacing and cover matter more than in Default.

Tip: Land Revolver shots from range and reposition — without stun, you can't lock the Killer down, so don't overcommit to melee.

Default

The standard one-Killer round. Civilians choose one of three offered two-ability decks, and each elimination gives the Killer more time.

The baseline format every special mode builds on, with no extra entities, buffs, or fire boundaries, so standard chase and ability logic applies.

Tip: Spread resources and information as Civilians. As Killer, finish a productive chase before switching targets.

Evil Scary

A normal round with an additional invulnerable entity. It appears after the opening, teleports toward the nearest player, and damages Civilians and Killers differently.

The entity is invulnerable and hits both sides, so the round plays like a normal chase with a roaming hazard you must route around.

Tip: Track the entity through walls and avoid committing to a fight in the lane it is entering.

Dienation

A Killer free-for-all with a shrinking fire boundary. The last Killer standing wins, and the mode does not enter the normal LMS phase.

Killers get their own health pool while the fire boundary keeps shrinking the arena, so the fight stays close-quarters.

Tip: As a Killer, don't overcommit early — thinning the Killer pool matters more than chasing Civilians in this mode.

How rotation works

A special mode appears every three rounds. You can't pick it — it's rolled automatically, so keep the rules above fresh so you're never caught off guard.

Private-server clips are not public modes

In a September 25 community video, Zombuddle says a private server was set up so every character could jump. That explains the unusual footage; it does not show a new rotating public mode or establish that every private-server owner can enable the same rule.

Last Man Standing (LMS)

LMS (Last Man Standing) isn't one of the rotating special modes above — it's the final phase of almost every round. When only one Civilian is left alive, the round shifts into the LMS standoff: a single survivor versus the Killer, often with a unique chase theme and visuals if the Killer is using an LMS skin.

Maps with tight, readable final areas make LMS especially cinematic — Teapot Paradise is the community's go-to spot for LMS clips because its compact center funnels the last chase into one readable space. See the Maps guide for layouts, and the LMS Skins guide for the Killer cosmetics that change the LMS chase music and look.

FAQ

What special modes are in Die of Death?+

The standard format is Default. Confirmed special variants are Double Trouble, One Bounce, Evil Scary, Gunslinger, and Dienation. Golf and Frybomber are upcoming concepts, not current public rotation modes.

How often do special modes appear?+

A special mode rolls every three rounds. It's automatic — you can't queue for a specific one.

Can every character jump in normal Die of Death rounds?+

A September 25 creator video shows a private-server session where everyone could jump. That is a custom match, not evidence that jumping was added to normal public rounds or the rotating mode list.

What is One Bounce in Die of Death?+

One Bounce puts 8 players in a 1-minute-15-second round where 1 random Civilian gets a buff (SSJ1 hairstyle, +40 HP per Killer, +250 stamina) and the other 7 are all Killers.

What is LMS in Die of Death?+

LMS stands for Last Man Standing — the final phase of a round when only one Civilian is left. It isn't one of the rotating special modes (those are Double Trouble, One Bounce, etc.). During LMS a single survivor faces the Killer, often with a custom chase theme if the Killer wears an LMS skin.

Is LMS a special mode you can queue for?+

No. LMS happens automatically whenever a round reaches its last surviving Civilian — you can't roll or pick it. The rotating special modes listed above are separate and appear every three rounds.

What are Golf and Frybomber in Die of Death?+

Golf and Frybomber are upcoming mode concepts shown in teasers and creator videos, but they are not in the current public rotation. They cannot be queued or played yet, so treat any claim of them being live as unverified.
